Our team comes together as a well oiled machine to accomplish the difficult but much needed task of presenting your message and image in the most tangible way to your audience—be that a focus group or the world at large. The story of Alan Hebel and Ian Shimkoviak is an uncommon tale. Some time in early 1995 Alan and Ian ventured to India on a self seeking quest with a group of young guys and some guides on the path. After finding a deep spiritual chord that suited their life tune they parted ways and returned back to the States. Unbeknown to either of them they enrolled in graphic design school in San Diego and Hawaii respectively. Taking life by the horns they catapulted out of design school into the market as entry level designers with superb life experience and that special tune still playing in their hearts and edging them on to seek greater involvement in greater creative environments. Working for numerous design firms, studios and design departments as well as freelancing when possible they crossed paths again in Vermont and began to discuss the future idea of forming a small design studio that could...
Alas, not so fast—an opportunity arose!
In 2000 the two friends (along with an early debut by Jonathan Hebel) rejoined in San Francisco working for the same publishing company: Palace Press International. Under the expert tutelage and guidance of 30 year publishing veteran Raoul Goff, they began to amass and develop a formidable library and inevitable portfolio that defined their careers as a dynamic duo. Hiring Chris Bryant in early 2001 as their design manager and tech support guy they impressed their industry peers with a burstful and impassioned approach to everything that ran through their hands. Later that year they hired Usana Shadday as a designer and photographer—bringing together a 4 man team that was unstoppable.
After a 5 year run with Palace Press International and their sister companies Insight Editions, Mandala and EarthAware Editions they decided it was high time to take the leap and form Alian Design. The time was right, the air was crisp and business started booming.
Today Alian Design continues on a daily basis to play their passionate and dedicated tune. Finding their inspiration in that time of long ago they imbibe all of their work with this approach of wholesomeness and profound life experience. You will find our team very eager to bring your vision to life and easy to work with on a very personal, professional and goal oriented level. We hope you have as much fun as we do.
