Bringing together the art of business, design, function and problem solving Alian design takes an innovative approach to every opportunity, challenge and situation at hand. Our team comes together as a well oiled machine to accomplish the difficult but much needed task of presenting your message and image in the most tangible way to your audience—be that a focus group or the world at large. It took 10 years for the current incarnation of Alian Design to take shape—an avatar of pure design magic, sensibility and dedicated passion to the craft and art of visual communication.
Ian's (Brooklyn, NY 1979-) design career began in Hawaii at Clarence Lee Design and Associates. His work has covered just about every design discipline in the graphic world, and with over 10 years behind every gamut of projects his visual experience shines through with compelling, extraordinary and inspired solutions to every problem. Serving up the very best in passionate design Ian immerses himself in creating everything you see here and more. Having traveled across the globe and lived in NY, LA, SF and exotic places such as India, Hawaii and the Philippines, his world experience has allowed him to excel in his chosen craft in a diverse visual world.
In 2005 Ian formed a strong partnership with longtime friend and work associate Alan Hebel. Together they formed Alian Design (a blend of their names), a studio environment that channels their creativity and talents to best serve their diverse client base. He is married and has one future designer in training named Alister Fynn who is one year old.
In 2008, Ian created The Book Designers with partners Alan, Usana and Scott. This team results in a dynamic company that can handle all book design, packaging, production and print related services. Alan Hebel is head of Design Production at Alian Design. His keen attention to detail and deep understanding of all aspects of your project result in top-notch creative solutions and award winning results in the final product. His sincere interest and dedication to producing the very best work has proved time and again to be the right ticket to attracting a great variety of stellar clients who we all enjoy working with. He is the key conductor of all projects and makes sure all schedules are met and everyone is well aware of what is expected of them and when.
Alan hails from Los Angeles and graduated from San Diego's Platte College. After years of working with Ian and Chris he felt confident in partnering with them and formed Alian Design in 2005. His passions include basketball, his family (wife and 2 kids)... oh, and design.
In 2008 Alan formed The Book Designers with long time friends and work associates, Ian, Usana, And Scott. He serves the company as lead layout and production artist.
Scott Erwert
GRAPHIC DESIGNER
Scott Erwert is an independent freelance graphic artist with over 16 years of design experience with companies such as Scholastic, Inc. & Lucasfilm. He has worked as Art Director for numerous design studios on countless projects and currently lives in San Francisco with his girlfriend and dog—Buckley.
In 2008 he joined forces with Alan and Ian of Alian Design and Usana Shadday to form The Book Designers—A dedicated team of book design professionals with over 20 years of combined experience in all aspects of book production.
Usana Shadday
DESIGNER / PRINT PRODUCTION
Raised in Vaisalia, California, Usana has developed a keen sense of life in this wonderful State. Taking pictures of quirky people, situations, and the California landscape, Usana's photography deals with the human spirit—be it a farmer, a drug addict or a politician—his work has appeared in many publications and is featured throughout the web. He is also a graphic artist—with emphasis on the artist.
Usana formed The Book Designers with Alan Hebel, Ian Shimkoviak ans Scott Erwert in 2008 where he works as production and print leader.
Alian Design Associates
Chris Bryant:
Born in the UK, Chris is Alian Design's very own genius—and General Manager/Web developer. His ability to come up with the most systematic, efficient and economical solutions to all aspects of Alian Design's functionality has propelled the company to make unbelievable strides in providing our customers with solid solutions to all their needs.
Chris joined Alian Design in 2005 and has a strong background in Information Technology. He has managed all Web accounts for the studio and brings a fresh and well-informed perspective to Alian Design's model for all web related projects. Chris was the missing link that completed Alian Design in its effort to become well established in the market and gain considerable notoriety in a short period of time. His clear, thorough communication, prevails as his defining quality in all his efforts; with us and with our clients.
Chris spends his few hours of "off time" pursuing and maintaining his photography as well as hitting the slopes in Tahoe and Vancouver with his wife Govinda and their son Raja.
Chris started Gravitek Labs in 2008 to better serve the growing need for quality Drupal development.
Jonathan Hebel:
Brother of our very own Alan Hebel, Jonathan adds an entirely fresh perspective to the Alian graphic design experience. Perhaps it is because he lives in the mystical land of India and spends his off-time traveling its coasts and surfing! Whatever the case, he is a master designer and adds a fresh insight into web graphics and stellar type treatments. He also takes care of Alian's multimedia projects.
Bill Dean:
Living in sunny England, Bill takes care of marketing and internal affairs for Alian! He has years of experience running his own Bay Area web design studio and adds a level of insight into marketing and sales for our company.
Sarva Bryant:
Genius DRUPAL programmer and web developer extraordinaire, Sarva Bryant lives in Japan where he masters to perfection all of Alian Designs web projects. His skills encompass Javascript and PHP customization and hacking, writing custom Drupal Modules and Drupal Themes as well as XHTML/CSS wizardry. Who need Ninja's when you have a Samurai like Sarva on board.
Regina Lovio:
Regina is editor and chief of copy writing at Alian Design. Having spent years in the film industry and moving into animal behavior she has learned the art of using her words carefully and wisely to get the most out of them.
Manda Hebel:
Born and raised in Cali, Manda spends her time targeting our target audience.
Govinda McComb:
Govinda is our accountant and handles all invoicing related questions.
