It's hard to find these guys. What are they? They are folks with an eye for design and good programming skills, but they are also people who can take a nice design and make it work in Drupal. Cross browser compatibility, SEO—these people make it happen for the web of tomorrow.
A lot of programmers out there seem to be jacks-of-all-trades. They know this and that and have an amazing body of websites that they have developed, but when you actually take a look at their work it is sub par. As if their job and duty to the web ends with their ability to write some lines of code and post some pictures (which seem to be blurry and pixelated half the time).
What do I want?
I want a programmer who cares about how the web looks. I want a programmer who is a good Drupal themer and has a sense of what can be done technology-wise to make the user experience a memorable one—and a painless one (on the eyes). I want a programmer who is a designer (or at least knows good design and is willing to push the envelop to see it). A real designer—one who can show me things they have designed—and the stuff looks good. Or at least has worked with good designers and made their work look good. Not for the designer—but for the world at large. Geez, for themselves. Where is the self respect and sense of pride in your work?!
The world seems short on these types of programmers. Everyone is busy working on big projects. It's about time that web design, Drupal, and all other open source solutions take root and become strong partnerships with good designers to better our future.
Are you a real good Drupal themer? Well drop us a line: info@aliandesign.com.
Send us your work samples and make sure it does not look like something from the dark ages of web design. We offer great rewards to those who come forward.
